I've never been one to be a fan of politics. I don't keep up with the news or each parties' views and to be honest, I don't really know who the leader of the PC party is right now.
It wasn't your position as the NDP leader that made your death impact the hearts and minds of so many Canadians - it was who you were as a person. Someone who stood up for what you believed in, and wanting to make the world a better place to live in - maybe that's what lead you to politics, but it's who you were.
So as I said, I don't know much about politics but I did read your final letter - and it did pull at my heart strings. That even at a point in your life where you knew you had little time left, you took the time you had to share a piece of you with a world and to leave a little light and inspiration for others to follow.
"My friends, love is better than anger. Hope is better than fear. Optimism is better than despair. So let us be loving, hopeful and optimistic. And we’ll change the world."

You were one of the most charismatic politicians, no individuals of our time.
Thank you.
RIP Jack Layton.
